This superb Nordique seascape oil on canvas is titled "Swedish coast" by Johannes Martin Grimelund (1842-1917). The light suggests that this is the midnight sun (twenty-four hour sunlight during summer).
This painting has been cleaned and re-varnished and retains original frame.
His works have been exhibited at the Palais des beaux-arts de Lille, Bernay and Oslo.
His father, Andreas Grimelund, was archbishop of Trondheim .
Johannes Grimelund studied in Kristiania , Düsseldorf , Karlsruhe and in Paris . He painted landscapes of Norway, France and other countries: Summer morning in the birch forest , Port of Antwerp , Fishermen's houses in the Lofoten Islands .
He was buried in Paris at Pere Lachaise cemetery ( 10 th division).
