This charming table lamp is fashioned from an eighteenth-century carved giltwood panel element, later mounted on a stepped plinth with a modern brass fitting and paired with a cream parchment shade. The sculpted bouquet forms a striking trophy of fruits, with grape clusters, swollen pods, and scrolling leaves rising above a rope-twist collar and a shaft carved in a trellis pattern. The surface retains parcel gilding with traces of red bole and warm brown ground showing through, creating depth and richness in its timeworn patina. Originally, such carved ornaments adorned grand interior paneling of the 18th century. Gilded wood shimmered in candlelight, while motifs of harvest abundance symbolized prosperity and hospitality.
Repurposed as a lamp in the twentieth century, this fragment preserves the artistry of its carving while transforming an architectural detail into a functional object with enduring historic presence. Of medium scale, it introduces sculptural distinction to a console in an entry, a side table in a living room, or a writing desk in a library. The muted gold and aged patina harmonize beautifully with limestone, oak, or painted finishes, while the soft shade casts a flattering light that enhances the carving. Equally at ease in traditional interiors, eclectic arrangements, or alongside contemporary art, it brings texture, depth, and character to any setting.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
