A tall Provençal Louis XVI-period trumeau mirror dating from the late 18th century, retaining its original two-tone green lacquer and parcel gilding enriched by traces of red bole. The frame combines soft sage-green reserves with a deeper eucalyptus-green border, creating a beautifully nuanced palette that softens the neoclassical design and gives the mirror the timeless charm of an old Provençal country house. The upper panel is centered by a finely sculpted gilt neoclassical trophy of musical instruments tied with a ribbon bow and framed by laurel branches, while below, the mirror retains its original two-part mercury glass, as was typical of antique mirrors, enclosed within delicately carved gilt surrounds. The mirror retains a beautifully timeworn surface, with scattered later refreshes to the green lacquer, minor edge nicks, and age-related craquelure that speak to its long history. The mercury glass has retained its lively crystalline shimmer, with gentle oxidation and light spotting that enhance its authentic period character.
