This very large artisanal French tian dates from the second half of the 20th century and was made in the traditional manner associated with southern French tian bowls. Hand-crafted, it has a slightly irregular profile, with a broad, deeply flared body fitted with two small lateral handles and a pronounced pouring spout. The interior is fully glazed in a warm honey-ochre tone, with attractive variations in color and depth that emphasize its artisanal character. By contrast, the exterior is largely left raw, revealing the pale clay beneath, while glaze drips beneath the rim add a spontaneous decorative touch. Interestingly, it bears the hand-written inscription T9450, adding to its workshop character, likely a workshop reference indicating the tian’s model, size, batch or stock number.
Its generous scale would make it especially striking on a large kitchen island or farmhouse table, filled with fruit or seasonal produce, or simply left empty to show its wonderfully expressive rustic glaze.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
