This charming gilt metal match holder features a delightful cherub poised gracefully on one foot, trumpet in hand, as if announcing joy and celebration. The twin cylindrical holders are adorned with a textured surface, likely intended for striking matches, and are embellished with delicate turquoise cabochons and lustrous faux pearls. The bow-like base adds elegance, while the intricate casting captures the cherub’s lively movement.

While likely intended as a match holder, it could equally serve as a toothpick holder or even a porte-aiguilles (needle holder), adding versatility to its charm. It dates from at least the nineteenth-century, possibly earlier.

A fine example of decorative artistry, this piece combines functionality with whimsical design, making it a conversation-worthy addition to any collection. Some minor losses to the turquoise and pearl embellishments, consistent with age and use.
