Titled Vacances à Cannes (Vacation in Cannes), this medium-scale ink and watercolor on paper captures a chic summer leisure scene on the Riviera, rendered in a lively palette of azure, citron, coral, and emerald. Five elegantly stylized figures in 1930s dress gather on a balustraded terrace, with palms, agaves, sailboats, and a sunlit headland beyond. The work is signed lower right and is presented under glass in a slim rose-toned and giltwood frame. In good condition with fresh color, a few small specks to the paper, and light wear to the frame.
The artist draws on the streamlined glamour of interwar Riviera imagery, recalling the crisp silhouettes and graphic clarity of travel posters from the period. Details such as the cloche hat, striped blazer, and tennis racket evoke the era’s taste for sport and seaside elegance, while the fluid ink and watercolor technique lends the scene a light, animated quality.
The labels on the reverse identify the artist as Yvonne Huet of Golfe-Juan, a town neighboring Cannes, and note that the composition was awarded a prize at the Cannes Retro painting competition in July 1991, situating the work within a local revival of Art Deco style and Riviera nostalgia.
This vibrant piece brings a relaxed Riviera spirit to coastal interiors, pairing effortlessly with rattan furniture and sitting beautifully in a sunroom setting.
