A gorgeous Victorian fruit and dessert service for twelve, with luminous mother-of-pearl handles and silver-plated blades, each piece adorned with reeded collars and finely engraved foliate decoration. The mother-of-pearl handles, hand-cut and polished, feel cool and smooth in the hand, their natural shimmer lending a sense of quiet luxury. The set rests in its original mahogany case, lined in rich emerald velvet and quilted ivory satin, creating a presentation as charming as the pieces themselves. The surfaces show a gentle bloom of age, from the soft iridescence of the nacre to light speckling and mellow tarnish on the plating. Overall in very good condition, with a timeworn case showing rubbing to the velvet and marks to the wood; the key to the case is no longer present.
