A vintage Australian honey dispenser from the breakfast table at Chanteduc, Patricia and Walter Wells’s home in Provence. In 1998 Patricia traveled to Adelaide to judge the Rémy Martin/Australian Gourmet Traveller Awards, naming The Grange at the Hilton International Hotel as Australia’s best restaurant. “I was invited to judge Australia’s best restaurant in 1998,” Patricia recalls, “and this clever honey service came home with me from Adelaide.” It is a testament to her love of artisans, markets, and the generous hospitality that defines her table, and it comes from Patricia Wells’s personal collection.
Crafted in dark-stained wood with a clear glazed front that frames the pale honeycomb like a small vitrine, the piece is both functional and elegant. The top lifts to refill the honeycomb sleeve; gravity draws the honey from the cells to collect for serving through a polished metal side tap with ring pull. Graceful in scale, it sits naturally among jars, breads, and cheeses. Fill it with miel de lavande for petit déjeuner, or place it beside a cheese board for an easy, conversation-starting service that brings a taste of Australia to a Provençal table.
Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
