A fine set of shop scales from the mid-twentieth century by mercantile brand Berkel.

Wilhelmus Adrianus van Berkel was a butcher in Rotterdam in the late 19th century. He invented a cutting edge slicer then evolved his business to manufacture scales. This fine Berkel scale dates from the mid-twentieth century and was used by merchants including butcher's, fishmongers, Boulangers and charcuterie specialists.

It is made with mixed materials including stainless steel. Functional although not calibrated.

Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
