This vintage brass double towel rail has hung in Le Marin, the ensuite of one of the guestrooms at Chanteduc, Patricia and Walter's beloved farmhouse near Vaison-la-Romaine.
Cast in warm brass, the two parallel bars are finished with fine reeding that runs their full length, while the connecting brackets are neatly turned. The real flourish comes from the wall-mount rosettes: ornate, flower-like castings with a layered, petal-edged profile that lift the whole piece from purely functional to quietly decorative. The brass has mellowed beautifully over time into a soft, burnished gold, with traces of verdigris settling into the recesses of the floral mounts — the kind of patina that only comes with age and use. "I like metal and decorative things in the bathroom," Patricia explains, and this rail is a perfect expression of that instinct.
Hang it against white plaster walls with linen towels folded over the bars, and it will look as though it has always been there.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
