Vintage Brass Picture Light

From Patricia's bathroom at Chanteduc, her farmhouse near Vaison-la-Romaine, comes this compact brass applique — originally a picture light that has found an entirely natural second life as a wall fixture. The fitting is all brass — warm, matte gold in tone, with a gently aged surface that catches the light without demanding attention. Its form is beautifully spare: a flat, angled shade extending from a slender arm, braced by a fine support rod and anchored to the wall by a simple rectangular backplate. Patricia explains that while it functions as an applique, it works really well alongside the gilded and brass pieces in her bathroom. Mount it beside a mirror, above a shelf, or anywhere a directed wash of warm light would be welcome. It is practical, handsome, and entirely in keeping with the Chanteduc spirit of things that are both useful and beautiful.
