Vintage Cast-Stone Seated Dog Garden Sculpture w/ Mossy Patina - 14½"

This vintage cast-stone dog sculpture has a solid, weighty form with a pleasing contrast between the simplified body and the much more expressive head. The lower body is rounded and stylized, with broad paws and softly modeled fur, while the face is full of character, from the deep folds around the muzzle to the alert eyes and floppy ears. The pale stone surface has developed a mottled mossy patina, settling into the recesses and emphasizing the modeling.

The simplified form gives the sculpture an appealing folk quality, while the face captures the faithful, watchful expression of a much-loved dog, with just enough solemnity to make it endearing and slightly amusing. The weathered surface adds texture and makes it feel perfectly at home among antiques, garden pieces and natural materials.

It would work particularly well on a porch, in a garden room or on a covered terrace, bringing warmth and personality to the space. Indoors beside a console or staircase, or outside among planters, it has the charm of a small, steadfast guardian.
