"Funny!" exclaims Patricia of this tiny hand-painted ceramic pepper pot, and it is hard to disagree.
Small enough to sit in the palm of a hand, this cheerful figural ceramic depicts a roly-poly cook dressed in whites, her toque painted with the inscription "I'm Pep" — a declaration of purpose as charming as it is direct. Rosy-cheeked and wide-eyed, holding a small golden utensil and radiates an irrepressible good humour. The glaze is smooth and white, the painted details crisp and characterful, with careful touches of colour at the face, hair and hands that speak to the attention of hand-decoration.
On a kitchen shelf, a windowsill, or grouped with other small ceramic finds, this little cook holds her own beautifully — entirely at home in a Provençal kitchen, or anywhere that takes genuine pleasure in the well-made and genuinely amusing things that make daily life more enjoyable.
