For summers beyond counting, this vintage bistro table has held its place on the terrace beside the swimming pool at Chanteduc, Patricia and Walter's farmhouse near Vaison-la-Romaine — as much a fixture of Provençal life as the lavender and the afternoon light.
The round top is Carrara marble, creamy white with the faintest grey veining, neatly pieced and fitted to its base with the kind of careful workmanship that speaks of a craftsman who took real pride in the join. The cast iron base has genuine character: a slender fluted column rising from a four-footed pedestal decorated with scrolling acanthus and rope-twist detail, the whole thing darkened to a deep charcoal-green with age and outdoor life.
Today it would be equally at home on a city balcony, in a garden, or brought indoors as a side table where the cool marble and the ornate iron base can be properly appreciated up close.
