From the main kitchen at Chanteduc, this vintage French three-panel pare-feu comes from Patricia Wells’ personal collection and will be instantly familiar to alumni of her winter truffle course. Patricia recalls, “It has a beautiful aesthetic and looks pretty even when it’s not in use. I love it because, in winter, I get up in the morning and light a fire.” Its provenance is the hardest-working room in the house, where cooking, teaching and conversation gather by the hearth.
Crafted with a brass frame and fine steel mesh, it features a gently arched center panel flanked by hinged wings. The brass shows a warm, even sheen with light patina at the lower rail from regular service in a busy cuisine, while the mesh reads a soft charcoal against the golden surround. Substantial enough to guard a generous blaze yet easy to fold and move, it balances utility with a confident, understated silhouette. Place it before a working fireplace in a living room or kitchen, or style it off-season with pillar candles behind the mesh for a soft glow. Practical and handsome, it carries the spirit of Patricia’s Provence and her generous hospitality into the home.
