Vintage French coffee pot - brown enamel w/ flowers

Dating from the 1950s, this lovely enamel coffee pot has a brown patina and is decorated with flowers. A lovely piece that will make a lovely addition to a collection of vintage French enamelware. These types of coffee pots or cafetières were used by filling its lower part with water, and placing coffee grounds in the basket above the water. It was then heated on a stove or over a fire, causing the water to boil and steam to rise.

This steam percolated through the coffee grounds, extracting flavors and oils. The brewed coffee would then drip back down into the lower chamber, mixing with the rest of the water. Once the brewing process was complete, the coffee could be poured using the spout and handle, ready to be served. This method was favored for the robust flavor it imparted to the coffee.
