A vintage French seau à glace (ice bucket) from the living room at Chanteduc, affectionately known as “the big one.” Patricia explains, “It’s lovely and heavy. We paid a fortune for it! It was originally made for use on a boat, so that it wouldn’t fall over. We bought it at a brocante in Vaison.” Part of her vintage and antique glassware collection, it reflects the intelligent simplicity and generosity that shape her life between Paris and Provence.
Formed in thick, clear glass, the bucket has a sculpted, weighted base for exceptional stability, with three applied pulls that feel confident in the hand. The cylindrical walls are bright and transparent, catching the light and framing a bottle beautifully. Weighing over 4 kg, it has real presence, the kind of purposeful heft Patricia favors when she entertains, teaches, and pours a celebratory coupe.
From Patricia Wells’ personal collection, this Provençal piece carries the easy authority of a cook and teacher who prizes useful, well-made objects. Put it to work chilling champagne or a pale rosé at apéritif, then repurpose it off-duty as a striking vase for citrus or seasonal branches.
Note: Some chips on the rim from so many memorable events!
