Vintage French Glass Kitchen Canister with Lid - 1940s

A vintage lidded glass kitchen canister from the pantry at Chanteduc, Patricia Wells’s home in Provence. Patricia explains, “It’s a lovely piece, probably from the 1940s, that I found at a brocante. It’s great for cookies, flour or sugar, things like that.” A brocante is a French flea market, and this find reflects her eye for useful, well made objects that serve everyday cooking and teaching. Formed in thick, clear glass, the jar has a rectangular body with softly rounded corners, a circular neck, and a fitted lid topped by a round knob. Its clarity catches the light and keeps pantry staples visible and orderly. The scale feels generous yet easy to handle, comfortable on a counter or open shelf. Fill with flour, sugar, or a batch of cookies, or use it in a studio for buttons, or twine.
