Vintage French Hand-Painted Kirsch Decanter with Cherries Motif 6¾"

A small vintage hand-painted kirsch decanter from Patricia and Walter Wells's paris apartment. This is part of Patricia Wells’s much-loved cherry collection. When Patricia and Walter first arrived at Chanteduc, the property’s seven venerable cherry trees crowned her “Madame Cerise” (Mrs. Cherry). Mouth-blown clear glass with a flared lip and rounded shoulders, it is edged with a slim green line and painted with lively red cherries. An ornate metal chain holds a plaque engraved Cerises (cherries), a graceful nod to the liqueur it once held and to the market-to-table life Patricia shares between Paris and Provence. Patricia explains, “I found this at the Saint-Ouen flea market. For years, Walter and I went there every Sunday and always had lunch at one of the market restaurants. At four o’clock, Walter would head off to edit the Monday edition of the International Herald Tribune and get it ready for print.” Compact and easy to lift, it feels made for convivial moments, whether pouring a cordial after lunch or holding homemade cherry syrup beside a summer tart.
