This French vintage molded concrete basket-form jardinière is modeled as a woven basket with an arched handle and a ring of small flowers and leaves around the rim. Its soft stone-white surface, with mossy green and charcoal toning, shows a natural weathered patina that gently softens the crisp relief. Small in scale and nicely proportioned, it remains structurally sound, with minor nicks and surface wear from outdoor use.
SSuch pieces belong to the tradition of cast concrete garden sculpture, where southern workshops cast concrete to imitate stone furniture, wickerwork, and rustic garden ornaments, leaving surfaces that age gracefully on terraces and in orangeries. Basket-form planters of this type were widely produced and remain a popular garden motif; what sets this example apart is its particularly attractive weathered patina, with soft mossy and earthy tones that enhance the relief and lend it authentic outdoor character.
Equally at ease indoors or in the garden, this small jardinière would be charming planted with tumbling ivy, lavender, or seasonal bulbs, placed on a potager table, stone ledge, or entry console.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
