A vintage French Série de mesures, translated as set of measures, from Julia’s Kitchen at Chanteduc in Provence, complete with the original peg rails that kept them within arm’s reach for years of classes. Patricia recalls that students reached for these again and again, a dependable companion to lessons in accuracy that reflects her intelligent simplicity and exact observation. The kitchen was affectionately named for her dear friend Julia Child, who gave Patricia her iconic La Cornue oven, installed there.
Crafted in sturdy stainless steel with a soft, work-worn sheen, the ensemble includes nesting pieces with rounded bowls and flat handles pierced for hanging. Stamped capacities read clearly by eye, the subtle red marks on the handles were used as references for students sets. Hang the brushed metal rails by the stove or a prep counter to keep the measures in daily rotation, or display them in a pantry or summer kitchen as functional décor. Gathered in a stoneware jar beside cookbooks, they bring order, utility and the celebrated provenance of Patricia Wells’s personal collection at Chanteduc to any cook’s workspace.
