A vintage Biot glass sangria bowl with matching ladle. Hand blown in warm olive amber bubble glass, the bowl presents a broad, low cylinder with thick walls, paired with a gracefully arched ladle terminating in a hooked tip. Countless tiny bubbles and delicate striations animate the surface, catching the light with a gentle sparkle. Nicely proportioned and substantial without heaviness, it sits with quiet presence on a table or bar. Very good condition with light surface wear to the base consistent with age, no chips or cracks observed.
The glassmaking tradition in Provence dates back thousands of years, and in Biot a new chapter began in the 1950s when La Verrerie de Biot refined its signature bubble glass. By controlling air within the molten glass, the workshop transformed bubbles from a flaw into a mark of quality. Each piece is mouth blown by a skilled glassblower, creating unique glasses, jugs, and vases that soften light and bring warmth to the table. Sangria and punch sets were especially popular along the Mediterranean from the 1960s to the 1980s.
This piece invites easy elegance. Set it on a vintage bar cart with a stack of linen napkins, or place it at the center of an alfresco table filled with sangria, or floating garden blooms. On a kitchen island, the bowl alone reads as a sculptural vessel, its mellow Provençal hue harmonizing with wood, stone, and brass accents.
