Petite vintage figural mustard pot modeled as a duck, crafted in stoneware with a speckled oatmeal to cocoa brown glaze and hand painted details to the eyes and bill. The head tilts upward in a charming pose, the wings are subtly incised, and the fitted lid has a spoon notch. Figural condiment pots were popular table novelties from the late 19th century, when European faïence and Staffordshire potters produced animals in service of mustard and sauces. The iron rich speckling and softly modeled silhouette here reflect that rustic aesthetic, while the notched lid denotes its intended use for mustard, though it serves equally well for sugar or salt.
Use it for Dijon beside a charcuterie board, for flaky sea salt near the stove, or for sugar on a tea tray. Its neutral glaze layers comfortably with ironstone and other stoneware, adding a gentle, whimsical note without overwhelming the vignette.
Light wear.
