This vintage terracotta garden urn, in the style of traditional Anduze pots, has a generously flared rim, rounded tapering body and low circular foot. Its surface is enriched with raised garlands and floral motifs, softened by age and partly absorbed into the richly textured finish. The urn has a particularly attractive mottled glaze, worked in muted gray-green tones with a pronounced overall crackle. Age, mineral deposits and surface wear have further softened the finish, adding depth and texture to the original decorative treatment.
Heavy and pierced for drainage, it is well suited to planting and would work well with a small citrus tree, clipped shrub, lavender or trailing greenery. Its aged color and tactile surface make it equally appealing left empty, where it could be used as a sculptural garden element on a terrace, set on a plinth at the corner of a path, or even placed beside an entrance as an unusual umbrella stand. The combination of classical decoration and a weathered finish gives it the picturesque character associated with old French gardens.
Condition and patina consistent with age.
