A contemporary French wine cooler from the students’ kitchen at Chanteduc, Patricia Wells’s Provençal home and cooking school. Patricia recalls that it was “used for years for chilling wine for long lunches and summer dinners,” and she notes it is nice for outdoors or by the pool. Light, durable and easy to carry, it moved from kitchen to terrace as classes and guests gathered, an unfussy companion to rosé and crisp whites.
Molded in clear plastic with a softly undulating rim and a stable rounded base, it has smooth, transparent walls that show bottle and ice to pleasing effect. Gentle surface marks speak to regular service in a busy teaching kitchen. The scale is generous enough for a standard bottle with plenty of ice yet compact enough to pass comfortably around a table. Set it on a bar cart or by the pool for effortless service, or keep it on a terrace table with a linen napkin and a chilled bottle ready for an impromptu pre-dinner drink. Off duty, it can smartly corral flatware or herb bunches during a garden buffet.
