"First your doctor retires, then your hairdresser, then your electrician, and then your honey maker," Patricia recalls with characteristic wry affection — a small elegy for the particular losses of a life well-lived in France. This olive wood honey spoon came from Patricia and Walter's Paris apartment, a modest but telling object from the years when they kept their own honey. The handle is smooth and slightly flattened, comfortable to hold, tapering upward to a ridged, coil-turned head designed to trap and release honey in a slow, controlled drizzle. Rest it across the lip of a honey jar on the breakfast table, tuck it into a crock of kitchen utensils, or lay it alongside a cheese board where a pot of honey is offered with aged comté or a wedge of blue.
