Patricia finds this antique wooden rug beater hysterical! It embodies a great piece of history - or urban myth perhaps! They were told that, at Chanteduc there was a little pond down where the table is on the terrace. Patricia explains that "they would pre-wash (can't believe it's true) clothes in the pond then then they would take them to the haute ville to the lavoire for second wash! Then they would schlep back up - that's the story I was told. I love it - can you imaging pounding your laundry?! - I think its a great piece of history - goodness we used to have to work hard!!"
