A 19th-century watercolor depicting a view of Montmartre, showing the windmills that once defined the hill around 1810. The composition is presented within a softly cut, polygonal mat, framing a gently animated landscape of sloping terrain, scattered houses, and several mills turning against a warm, atmospheric sky. Executed with delicate washes and light tonal transitions, the scene balances architectural detail with a sense of open space, the palette moving through sandy ochres, muted greens, and pale blues.
The subject reflects Montmartre before its urban transformation, when the hill was still rural in character, dotted with working windmills and small structures. Such views were popular in the 19th century, capturing a nostalgic image of Paris on the cusp of modern expansion.
Recently framed and presented under glass with a wide mat, the work shows light age toning and minor surface marks consistent with its period, while remaining visually clear and stable.

Quiet and evocative, it suits a study, hallway, or living space where its soft palette and historic subject can be appreciated. Whether placed alone or within a group of works on paper, it brings a gentle sense of place and a window onto early Paris. A matching Paris view watercolor is available here for separate purchase.
