This listing is part of the 'At Home with Patricia Wells' collection of epicurean objects and decorative antiques.
This superb antique 'maigre gras' sauce boat is from Chanteduc, the home of Patricia and Walter Wells in Provence. It is made from white porcelain and features stylish gold trim with the letters M and G on each beak, indicating where to pour the 'Maigre', lean sauce, and 'Gras', fat. The design is ingenious - the fat in gravy and sauces separates, rising to the top, so you are able to choose whether you wish to indulge in the fattier sauce or not! This particular piece is stamped underneath and indicates that it is from Central Europe (Slovakia). A rare find, Patricia loves them and has collected three similar pieces over her lifetime.
