Woven Reed Harvest Basket with Dark Wood Handle

This sturdy harvest basket has been a fixture at Chanteduc, Patricia and Walter's farmhouse in Vaison-la-Romaine, for years. Found at a local brocante one Sunday morning. The contrast between the pale woven body and the dark wood handle is simple and beatuiful. Patricia has long been drawn to woven things — wicker, wirework, basketry of all kinds — and this piece is a fine example of why. Compact and deep-sided, it is the right size for carrying eggs from the garden, gathering herbs before a class, or holding a small bunch of flowers on a kitchen table. In a contemporary home, it would be equally at ease on a shelf, a windowsill, or beside a back door.
