Oppède Le Vieux - medieval magnificence in the Luberon
Oppède Le Vieux is one of the most stunning villages in the Luberon valley. It is perched on a hill and surrounded by wild forest of oak and pine.
This is a village to be explored by foot. Leave your car in the carpark and meander through the beautiful gardens with views looking over the valley, dotted with villages to Mont Ventoux.
This breathtaking village boasts a 12th century collegiate church, a crumbling feudal chateau and dainty 15th and 16th century houses.
You can easily spend a day here - there are numerous easy self guided walking tracks that are well worth exploring. Then, when you are ready for an apéro and a bite, head to Le Petit Café for a delicious meal overlooking the ancient square.
Down in the gentle hills below there are winding country roads and divine ancient French farmhouses.
