A charming graduated pair of hand-painted ceramic candlesticks from Quimper, France, dating to the 1960s, embodying the enduring artistry of Breton faience. Crafted in the historic pottery town of Quimper, they reflect traditional savoir-faire and regional decorative heritage. Each candlestick features a flared cup raised on a gently balustered, tapering stem, an elegant yet unpretentious form. They are graduated in height for a harmonious tiered display. Both cups are fitted with a central spike to securely hold a taper candle. Hand-painted stylised floral and foliate motifs in warm ochre, soft green, and earthy brown are delicately outlined against a creamy white glaze, the expressive brushwork and subtle irregularities revealing the artisan’s touch and giving each piece its own personality.
The condition is very good, with only gentle signs of age that speak to its vintage character and authentic history. This refined duo brings effortless balance to a tablescape or mantel, their graduated heights introducing subtle movement and sculptural dimension. The hand-painted floral decoration adds a note of artisanal charm and gentle colour, infusing the setting with the warmth and poetry of the French countryside.
