A charming hand-painted ceramic candlestick from Quimper, France, dating to the 1960s, reflecting the joyful spirit of Breton faience. The piece is shaped with a wide flared cup raised on a gently balustered, tapering stem and circular foot, creating a compact yet sculptural silhouette. The simple form feels both sturdy and decorative, with a central spike within the cup designed to securely hold a taper candle.
The surface is richly adorned with hand-painted stylised floral and geometric motifs in shades of soft rose pink, deep green, and black, set against a creamy white tin glaze. The rhythmic brushstrokes and subtle variations in the decoration reveal the artisan’s hand, while the glaze has developed a gentle patina over time. Light surface wear and minor irregularities speak to its authentic vintage character.
Petite and full of personality, this candlestick would bring a lively note of colour to a bedside table, mantel, or intimate tablescape. Its decorative energy and artisanal warmth lend a touch of French country elegance to both classic and contemporary interiors.
