This striking modern sculpture is by the artist Jacques Lubtchansky and is titled tranches de vie meaning slices of life. Made from optic crystal it is possible to read the engraved inscriptions on the back.

Jacques Lubtchansky, born in 1955, is an artist whose work spans the realms between earth and sky, wood and glass. Through a fusion of confrontations and dialogues, he articulates the beauty of a world that will be welcoming once seen through the right lens.

His career path, though unexpected, exhibits a convincing maturity in the works produced. Lubtchansky's journey as a glass sculptor emerged from diverse and rigorous disciplines, including a doctoral thesis in astrophysics and astronomy, involvement in theatrical and circus movements, and the design of museum objects for prestigious institutions such as the Cité des Sciences de la Villette and the Natural History Museums of Paris and Lyon.

Glass became the medium through which Lubtchansky found his artistic voice, offering boundless avenues for sculpture. Initially drawn to the glass of Henri Cros, he realized that glass could be the means to explore his inner concerns and project them into the artistic universe.

After years of experimentation and exploration, Lubtchansky emerged with pieces that reflected not the novice, but the mature production of an artist comfortable in his orbit. He notes, "Glass is both essential and secondary. Techniques are acquired when the need arises. Quickly, I abandoned color to pursue a greater simplicity in favor of stronger expression."
