Large 1960s Keraluc Quimper Hand-Painted Ceramic Vase by Paul Yvain - 15¼"

This large ceramic vase was made at the Keraluc pottery in Quimper, Brittany in the 1960s, and hand-painted by Paul Yvain (1919-2007). It has a generous, pitcher-inspired form, with a rounded body, a beautifully curved handle, a long angled spout and a wide, flared neck, all resting on a pedestal foot. The cream-colored surface is richly decorated with stylized flowers, curling foliage and geometric borders in shades of leafy green, soft pink, warm orange and black. The floral motifs flow freely across the rounded body, while more structured patterns emphasize the neck, spout and base. The matte ceramic surface has a lovely, slightly textured finish that adds depth and warmth to the hand-painted decoration, and subtle variations in the surface and brushwork reflect its handmade character. The piece is in very good condition overall, with a tiny chip at the base and a fine firing crack underneath that does not affect its structural integrity. A watertight liner is recommended if using the vase for fresh flowers.

This distinctive vase shape was used by different artists at Keraluc, each bringing their own artistic interpretation to the decoration. Here, Yvain's lively floral composition has a particularly fresh, playful quality, combining traditional Breton influences with a more modern, expressive approach. Each hand-painted example is unique, making these vases especially interesting to collectors of mid-century French ceramics. This colorful piece would look beautiful on a large kitchen shelf, a dining room sideboard or a console, displayed on its own or among other collectible ceramics.
