This rare antique Altona-shaped mirror was made in the time of Louis XVI at the end of the eighteenth century. It is comprised of stunning green marble from the Greek island of Tinos. Complementing the verdant marble, gilded wood and gilded iron elements add a touch of opulence and elegance to the composition.
The lovely floral decorations seen at the crown and the base are made from iron that has been bent and decorated with gilded flowers. Stucco was also used as a material component in the frame and decoration. The rare green marble is in perfect original condition. The mirror has been replaced and minor restorations have been made so that the mirror is able to maintain its original beauty over the centuries.
This would be a stunning addition to any interior, perhaps in an entry foyer, or above a commode in a bedroom.
Note: Mirrors have been photographed facing fabric, a technique that reveals any age spots in the glass. In some cases, this may create the appearance of an empty frame, but each mirror is complete except where explicitly stated.
Condition and wear consistent with age and use.
