Mediterranean Harbor Scene, French Oil on Canvas Signed Lumière, Early 20th Century - 19¾" x 25½"

Signed “Lumière” at the lower right, this early 20th-century French oil on canvas depicts a quiet Mediterranean harbor, with a line of sailing boats moored alongside pale waterfront buildings. The composition is dominated by an expansive blue sky and gently rippling water, enlivened by touches of red, green and ochre across the boats and architecture. Loosely handled brushwork captures reflections on the water and the light coastal atmosphere. The painting shows small areas of paint loss and staining, with visible restorations to the reverse.

The low horizon and generous expanse of blue create an appealing sense of openness, while the small figures, boats, and reflections gently animate the scene. The restrained palette and abundance of sky and water give the work a luminous, airy quality, bringing a calm sense of space and Mediterranean atmosphere to an interior.
