Mid-20th Century Aegitna Vallauris Green Glazed Coffee Service for Eleven

A vintage French ceramic tea or coffee service for eleven by Aegitna, Vallauris, likely dating from around 1960. The set comprises eleven cups with matching saucers, each with a slightly irregular, hand-finished form that gives the service a relaxed artisanal character. A rich mottled green glaze varies subtly from piece to piece, pooling and shifting in tone across the surfaces, while dark brown edging and handles provide a graphic contrast. The pieces are marked Aegitna Vallauris beneath the bases and are in very good condition, with only minimal signs of use. 

The service reflects the expressive approach to everyday ceramics that made postwar Vallauris so distinctive, combining practical tableware with lively glazes and visible traces of the maker’s hand. Used together, the eleven settings create a generous sweep of emerald green across the table, with enough variation in the handmade forms to keep the effect lively. The richly freckled glaze gives the service real visual depth, catching the light differently from piece to piece. When not in use, the cups and saucers remain highly decorative grouped on a sideboard, in a glazed cabinet, or on kitchen shelving, where the saturated green brings an eye-catching pop of color to the room.
