Monumental Haussmannian Zinc Bull’s-Eye Dormer Mounted w/ Antique Mercury Mirror 2/2 - 57" x 49¼"

Late 19th century France, a monumental Haussmannian œil-de-bœuf dormer in hand-formed zinc, now transformed into a mirror with its antique mercury-backed plate. Generous in scale and rich in architectural detail, the molded oval frame is accentuated by bold volute scrolls, echoing the sculptural rhythm of Parisian rooftops. The zinc surface shows a soft lead-grey patina with layered oxidation, visible solder joins, and gentle dents that reflect its former life above the city streets.

The mercury glass shimmers with the lively, crystalline sparkle so sought after in antique mirrors, its delicate foxing and light marks lending movement and depth to the reflection. Strong enough to stand alone as a focal point, it also pairs beautifully with its companion example here, creating a striking sense of balance and grandeur when installed together.

With its origins in rooftop architecture, this mirror naturally blurs the line between indoors and outdoors. In a conservatory, it reflects greenery and filtered light, amplifying the sense of space while echoing the zinc and glass structures often found in 19th century garden rooms.
