Joseph Hurard, born on August 3, 1887 in Avignon and died on February 18, 1956 in Martigues , is a painter . Pupil of Pierre Grivolas , Vionnet and Jules Flour at the School of Fine Arts in Avignon . Biography Born in Avignon in 1887, he first worked in a drugstore. Selling paintings and colors to artists from Avignon, he finds them on Sundays to paint with them. His talent noticed, he was part of the " Group of Thirteen " created in 1912 by Clément Brun, of which he was the youngest. He became friends with Joseph Meissonnier and participated with the group in a first exhibition on December 21, 1912which was a resounding success, followed by a second exhibition on December 18, 1913, which is also the last of the Group. In this melting pot, he frequents elders already touched by fame like Lina Bill or Auguste Chabaud. Among the most gifted designers of his generation, painting with disconcerting ease, he quickly stood out. Unfortunately Hurard will not go to study at the Beaux-Arts which we can regret because probably he would have been one of the greatest painters of his time. He died in Martigues in 1956.

The Groupe des Treize is a group of painters from Avignon founded and chaired in 1912 by Clément Brun, following the decision of the president of the "Société vauclusienne des amis des arts" to exclude from an exhibition sculptors, engravers and architects of Vaucluse, as well as artists from neighboring departments. Group members Besides Clément Brun, the members of the group were the painters Pierre Alexandre Belladen, Alfred Bergier, Lina Bill, Léon Colombier, Claude Firmin, Jules Flour, Joseph Hurard, Alfred Lesbros , Joseph Meissonnier and Louis Agricol Montagné and the sculptors Jean-Pierre Gras and Paul Gaston Deprez.
