Set of 14 Italian Trompe-l’Oeil Hand-Painted Stone Fruits

This charming set of fourteen Italian trompe-l’oeil fruits, likely dating from the early to mid- 20th century, is hand-carved from stone and individually painted to imitate peaches, figs, pears, apples and other fruits with remarkable realism. Each piece has been carefully shaped and colored, with subtle variations in tone, mottling and surface texture giving the group a wonderfully natural appearance. Their smooth stone surfaces and satisfying weight in the hand add further to the convincing illusion.
