This petite antique French confit pot dates from the late 19th or early 20th century and has a pleasing, gently rounded body with a thick rolled rim and a narrow foot. The glossy green glaze varies from soft olive to pale moss, with subtle mottling and fine crazing across the surface. It ends in a slightly uneven line around the middle, leaving the lower half in exposed terracotta that has darkened over time. Shades of earthy brown, charcoal and gray give this unglazed section a particularly rich, rustic patina. There are a few small chips and marks from use, all consistent with its age.
The contrast between the mellow green glaze and the weathered clay gives this little pot plenty of Provençal country charm. Its modest size makes it lovely for a kitchen shelf or narrow sideboard, perhaps holding a few dried sprigs of rosemary or thyme. Two other small antique confit pots are available separately here and here, each with its own distinctive glaze and patina, and the three would make a harmonious little collection.
