About the artist (from The Benezit Dictionary of Artists):

Agricol Louis Montagné, a distinguished French artist of the 20th century, was born on 19 August 1879 in Avignon and passed away on 12 February 1960 in Paris. Renowned as a painter, watercolorist, and designer, his oeuvre primarily encompasses genre scenes and landscapes. Montagné's artistic journey began under the tutelage of Paul Sain in 1895, followed by studies with Cormon in Paris. His talent was recognized early on, earning him a travel grant in 1911. In Paris, he played significant roles within the art community, serving as a jury member and a member of the Salon d'Automne. From 1945 to 1959, he contributed to the preservation of cultural heritage as the conservator of the Musee de Villeneuve-les-Avignon. Moreover, Montagné's collaborative spirit shone through in his partnership with Paul Sain on two panels for the buffet in the Gare de Lyon in Paris, and in his involvement in the decorative projects for the ocean liner Bernardin-de-St-Pierre.
