Vintage Villeroy & Boch Burgenland Blue and White Coffee Cups Saucers, Set of 6

This charming set of six Villeroy & Boch coffee cups and matching saucers is decorated in the firm’s Burgenland pattern, one of its most popular designs. The white ceramic is embellished with blue transfer-printed floral and scrollwork decoration, while the gently scalloped saucers repeat the same ornamental vocabulary. An especially appealing detail appears inside the cups, where two different romantic castle scenes are revealed at the bottom as the coffee is finished. The pieces are marked underneath and remain in good vintage condition, with light rubbing and minor discoloration consistent with age.

One cup bears a different Villeroy & Boch backstamp from the others, indicating that it was added later from another production period of this long-running pattern, which was produced in various iterations from the 1930s through the late 20th century.

The blue-and-white palette gives the set a fresh, decorative quality, while the hidden castle scenes add an element of charm and discovery to each cup.
